Get Ready to be Dual Certified!

Strength in Numbers #82

Over two years in the making, the Certified Pitching Biomechanist Course is finally available. We have yet to launch this outside the ABCA Conference, but we want to invite you all to dive into this course.

Who better to cut the red tape than our trusted and valued weekly readers?

We are putting the final touches on our educational platform and doing a few systems checks before you can access it, but now is the time to take the course.

I told people it would be about the same length as the Certified ArmCare Specialist Course.

However, I underestimated how much insight was discussed and how much of it had to be shared—it literally has enough for three levels of the course but is condensed into one masterpiece.

BRIEF SYNOPSIS OF THE COURSE

After going through 30 hours of footage, we decided to cut it down to 9.5 hours of goodness.

Here’s the rundown of the education.

  1. We first start with a Pitching Biomechanics Primer. I take you through the delivery, describe actions that are multiplanar, and indicate differences in posture and positions in both closed chain (feet on the ground) and open chain (feet in the air) to just get a feel for descriptors of motion.
  2. After the primer, we get into the theoretical education with applied storytelling and real-world examples integrating data-led insights into player development approaches.
  3. Then the crux of it is navigating the Strength and Coordination Decision Tree, an algorithmic way to approach adjustments made to mechanics in the face of pain and poor performance.
  4. Finally, the beauty of adding knowledge on how to dissect 3D motion data allows coaches, clinicians, strength coaches, scouts, analysts, sports scientists, parents, and yes, players to understand how to stabilize movement and make motor preferences optimal and sustainable.

Throughout this course, the strength and coordination approach is truly blended between dynamometry and 3D motion capture. So you won’t get bogged down in the numbers, you will dial into how to evaluate movement changes and how to solve pain and poor performance problems.

THE COURSE IS REAL & AUTHENTIC

This course was attended and vetted by MLB pitching coaches, physical therapists, athletic trainers, scouts, and biomechanists.

It passes the sniff test, and you will feel as if you are in the room with me when you go through it. You will see my sweaty armpits because I’m so into it.

You’ll see me swearing and fired up because I am passionate about this project. It incorporates my 15 years of education that includes a post-doctoral fellowship at Penn Medicine, where I saw the value of orthopedic and biomechanical screening being done together and the opportunity to fill a gap in the academic world between strength and skill.

Add the 9+ years I have worked with professional athletes and professional sport leadership and connecting dots across biomechanics, exercise physiology, perceptual-motor interactions, and motor development.

You will walk away with new knowledge but a roadmap on how to navigate a challenging world of new data, being process data, the kind of data that comes before the ball is released from the hand.

It’s the stuff before stuff grades, the stuff that truly matters and leads to more innings pitched and better competitive outcomes because pain and poor performance are avoided and “no one dies by the cure” (an expression in the game that indicates kiss of death coaching adjustments).

THE COURSE IS ARTFUL

To get this video right, we enlisted the help of a unique cinematographer named Matt Ruby, known as 5k Ruby.

We knew we had the information; the Certified ArmCare Specialist Course validated that point.

But in this, we were going for entertainment value, interconnection, and interdependence between our course content and audience.

We created a great relationship with EXOS, a premium high-performance company with a flagship location in Phoenix, Arizona, and we closed the doors to 35 people and got after it. If you are a parent, coach, scout, player, physical therapist, athletic trainer, you name it, your demographic was represented in the conference room.

For the 30 hours of footage, multiply those hours times four, and that’s how long we worked on the editing process and carefully selected information that made the most sense and was most actionable in coaching, scouting, correcting, enhancing, and protecting our athletes.

We eliminated anything that made us question:

  • Could you coach from this information?
  • Could you determine differences in competitive ability from this information?
  • Could you find this information somewhere else?

THE SOFT LAUNCH AND WHERE WE ARE GOING NEXT

Are we going to make a major launch campaign? Definitely!

However, it means more to me to invite you all to take the course before anyone else.

You have been digesting our weekly newsletters, but I am limited in how deep I can go into critical optimization factors; (1) Strength-Velocity Ratio, (2) Pitching Efficiency Ratio, (3) Biomechanical Efficiency Ratio, and (4) Stress-Shielding Ratio.

I take a lot of time to write these newsletters each week, and I’m clearly not the kind of person that believes less is more. And if you have a lot of good information to give and you see the benefit is sharing it, then why hold back?

ARMCARE ELITE IS COMING SOON

If you have taken the Certified ArmCare Specialist Course, you will be granted access to ArmCare Elite which is our next educational undertaking that is interactive and based on a community of dual-certified experts.

This February will mark the second year I have been with ArmCare.com, and for two years, we have been building technology and education.

I have been waiting for this moment to be around people who are like-minded and make the player the center of their universe and will invest in themselves to sharpen and add new tools to the toolbelt in helping them reach their dreams.

ArmCare Elite will open a vault of information that is not publicly available and has the advantage of growing your own brand through our company as we will give you the spotlight and will need you to shape the future in eradicating injuries and dominating throwing performance.

The destination only moves as fast and as far as the people who commit to the mission. Are you in?

From science to practice – this course has it all.  In this section of the course, I go through a simple model to determine if the kinematic sequence is optimized, and if shifted, we get into the gym to attack strength, length, and timing with throwing-specific swing eccentrics.
I am fired up just thinking about how this new information will benefit you and prepare you for the future of the game focused on the body before the ball.

More Than Velocity is the name of our podcast, but it truly is the wave of the future. Click here to our course page and unlock new science and training secrets.
